Ceramic-Coated Cookware
Q: How is Ceramic non-stick different from Stainless Steel and Cast Iron?
A: Ceramic Cookware is non-stick and easy to clean, and is perfect for cooking eggs and delicate proteins over low-to-medium heat! Customers can also choose between Stainless Steel or Cast Iron collections if their recipes call for higher heat cooking.
Q: Does Caraway Ceramic non-stick wear over time?
A: Yes, all non-stick coatings will slowly wear off given frequent use. Just like your favorite pair of shoes, the more you use them the faster they wear out. But with proper maintenance, Caraway cookware is designed to last years!
Q: How safe is your non-stick coating?
A: The ceramic non-stick is made from inorganic natural ingredients which are all 100% safe to use in contact with all foods (and FDA approved). Plus, the absence of potentially dangerous chemicals like PTFE, PFOA, PFAS, Lead, and Cadmium means that there is no chance of harmful materials leaching into your food, even if you accidentally scratch or overheat your pan.
Q: Is it safe to use on all stovetops and ovens?
A: Yes! Ceramic cookware is induction compatible. However, not all induction stovetops are compatible – we suggest reaching out to your manufacturer to confirm.
Ceramic cookware can also handle up to 550°F without breaking a sweat. Each piece of cookware is designed purposefully to be used in and on all cooking surfaces and ovens.
Q: Should I hand wash my Ceramic-coated Cookware or can I use the dishwasher?
A: Dishwashers are notorious for their harsh detergents and abrasive way of cleaning. Because of this, we suggest that all Caraway products never be put in your dishwasher since it drastically reduces the life of your non-stick properties and can potentially cause cosmetic damage. Instead, a gentle hand wash with warm, soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge or dishcloth helps keep your cookware looking fresh!
Q: What type of tools should I use with the Cookware?
A: Wooden or nylon utensils are all great to use with your Caraway products! Rough, sharp edges of metal utensils can damage the non-stick coating, and we strongly recommend that you avoid these.
Q: How hot do my pans need to be to start cooking?
A: Low to medium heat is all you need! Ceramic-coated pans heat up in under a minute and can retain their temperature more efficiently compared to traditional cookware.
Q: Do I need butter, oil, or cooking spray when cooking?
A: Ceramic cookware has a non-stick surface, so while butter or oil is required, only a small amount is needed. We recommend lightly coating the entire interior for the best cooking experience. Avoid using cooking sprays, as they can lead to residue buildup.
Q: Does the Fry Pan come with a lid?
A: The 10.5″ lid is designed to fit the Fry Pan and the Dutch Oven. This lid is only included when you purchase the full Cookware Set or the Dutch Oven. We also offer a 10.5″ glass lid, available separately!
Stainless Steel Cookware
Q: What is 5-ply Stainless Steel?
A: “Ply” refers to the number of bonded layers present in the cookware. Stainless Steel Cookware is 5-ply, making for superior heat conduction & distribution, as well as maximum durability.
Q: Does Stainless Steel cookware contain aluminum?
A: The cookware features an aluminum core surrounded by 5-ply Stainless Steel, so there is no concern of leaching. Aluminum is a superior conductor of heat and enables the pans to heat quickly and evenly, while Stainless Steel provides you with a durable non-corrosive and non-toxic cooking surface.
Q: Is Stainless Steel non-stick?
A: Stainless Steel cookware is not made with non-stick properties. However, sticking can be minimized by properly pre-heating the pan and following some simple maintenance tips.
Q: Does stainless steel require seasoning?
A: Nope! Stainless Steel doesn’t need to be seasoned like traditional cast-iron or carbon steel. However, following proper heating instructions will go a long way in maximizing cooking performance.
Q: Are the pans induction and oven compatible?
A: You bet! The pans have a magnetized stainless steel base plate that can be used with induction stovetops. Additionally, all pans are oven safe up to 550°F and used under the broiler up to 465°F.
Q: Can they be used in the dishwasher?
A: We recommend handwashing as using a dishwasher can affect the longevity of your cookware.
Q: Can I use metal utensils?
A: We recommend using wooden utensils (or similar) to keep the cooking surface as scratch-free (and high performing) as possible!
Q: Can I cook at higher temperatures with Stainless Steel?
A: Yes! Stainless Steel cookware can handle any temperature. For the best results, we recommend preheating on low to medium heat.
Q: How much oil or butter do I need to add?
A: An appropriate amount of oil or butter is all you need to coat the pan! It should be preheated for a minute before adding in your food. Avoid oil sprays or cooking aerosols.
Q: Will the Stainless Steel discolor?
A: Exposure to prolonged periods of heat may cause discoloration over time, but this will not affect performance! Any Stainless Steel cookware cleaner will have your pans looking as good as new.
Enameled Cast Iron Cookware
Q: How do I season Enameled Cast Iron, or does it need seasoning?
A: Enameled Cast Iron Cookware doesn’t require seasoning and is ready to use straight out of the box. This means you can cook a wide variety of dishes, including acidic foods (unlike seasoned Cast Iron), without any concerns.
Q: Is Caraway’s Enameled Cast Iron non-stick?
A: While Enameled Cast Iron Cookware isn’t non-stick, the enameled coating can help reduce sticking compared to traditional cast iron pans. For best results, we recommend properly preheating your cookware and using an appropriate amount of oil or butter.
Q: Is it safe to use on all stovetops and ovens?
A: Absolutely! Enameled Cast Iron Cookware is compatible with all stovetops and is oven-safe up to 500°F. Additionally, all pans can also be used under the broiler (up to 450°F).
Q: Can I use it in the dishwasher?
A: Enameled Cast Iron should not be washed in a dishwasher. We recommend hand washing with warm, soapy water to ensure your cookware’s longevity.
Q: Can I use metal utensils on my Enameled Cast Iron?
A: To protect the enamel coating, avoid using metal utensils like knives, whisks, or spatulas. Instead, use wooden or nylon utensils. Avoid cutting food directly in the pan to prevent scratches.
Q: How is Enameled Cast Iron different from Caraway’s Ceramic and Stainless Steel collection?
A: Enameled Cast Iron stands out for its durability, superior heat retention, and even heat distribution. It’s perfect for recipes that involve searing, frying, and baking.
Q: How long will my Enameled Cast Iron Cookware last?
A: With proper care, your Enameled Cast Iron Cookware is designed to last a lifetime and be passed down for generations!
Q: Do I need to preheat my Enameled Cast Iron pans, and if so, how?
A: Yes, preheating is recommended for a more stick-free cooking experience. Preheat your Enameled Cast Iron Cookware on medium heat for at least five minutes before adding oil or butter. Avoid preheating a dry pan for more than five minutes to protect the enamel.
Q: What practices should I follow to prevent sticking when using Enameled Cast Iron?
A: Properly preheating your Enameled Cast Iron is crucial for a stick-free experience. Also, choose a fat with the right smoke point for your recipe. Patience is key; allow ingredients, especially proteins, to sear and naturally release from the surface before flipping or stirring.
Q: What’s the easiest way to clean off stains?
A: For light stains, let the cookware cool and wash with regular soap and water. For regular stains, simmer soapy water over low heat and gently scrub with a sponge or non-abrasive scrubber. For tougher stains, simmer soapy water with 2 teaspoons of baking soda over low heat. For other exterior or interior stains, create and apply a vinegar and baking soda paste and scrub with a sponge.
Bakeware
Q: What material is your Bakeware made of, and is it non-stick?
A: Bakeware is manufactured with an aluminized steel core, stainless steel handles, and a cooking surface that’s coated with the exact same non-toxic Ceramic coating as Ceramic-coated Cookware. Aluminum is a superior conductor of heat, while the Ceramic coating is non-stick and free of lead, cadmium, PTFE (Teflon®), PFOA, and other harmful chemicals.
Q: What temperature can your Bakeware be used up to?
A: Bakeware is oven safe up to 550°F! Ceramic products should not be used with the broiler setting. While ceramic products can withstand up to 550°F, the use of a broiler can typically cause a rapid and uncontrollable change in temperature, which can lead to warping.
Q: Should I hand wash my Caraway Bakeware or can I use the dishwasher?
A: Dishwashers are notorious for their harsh detergents and abrasive way of cleaning. Because of this, we suggest that all Caraway products never be put in your dishwasher since it drastically reduces the life of your non-stick properties and can potentially cause cosmetic damage. Instead, a gentle hand wash is all you need to keep your Caraway looking fresh!
Q: What type of tools should I use with the bakeware?
A: Wooden, silicone, or nylon utensils are all great to use with your Caraway products! Rough, sharp edges of metal utensils can damage the non-stick coating, and we strongly recommend that you avoid these.
Q: Do I need to add oil or butter?
A: Bakeware is naturally non-stick, but a light amount of oil or butter should be added for even easier release. Bakeware can also be coated with flour too. For a speedy clean up, lining up with parchment paper will also help maintain its non-stick quality.
Q: Can I cut directly on these items (like the Pizza Pan)?
A: To preserve the effectiveness and longevity of your Bakeware’s nonstick surface, we recommend transferring your food to a cutting board or other safe surface before using a knife or pizza cutter.
Trash & Recycling
Q: What is the volume of the Trash Cans and Recycling Bins?
A: Both the Rectangular and Slim Trash Cans have a 45L capacity. The Recycler features two bins that together hold 45L of recyclables. Each bin was designed with a 12-inch clearance, allowing it to comfortably fit a wide range of common kitchen recyclables.
Q: What kind of bags do the Trash Cans and Recycling Bins use?
A: Both the Rectangular and Slim Trash Cans are compatible with standard 13-gallon kitchen trash bags. The Recycler bins do not require the use of any bags, but can be used with commonly available liners if desired.
Q: What’s the best way to clean the Trash Cans and Recycling Bins?
A: The entire system was designed with cleaning in mind. Simply wipe down the outer shell and inner bin with a damp cloth or mild soap. Fingerprint-proof surfaces, smooth walls, and minimal seams help prevent grime from building up, while rounded inner corners make every spot easy to reach.
Q: How does this Trash Can help keep odors contained?
A: A thoughtfully engineered lid overlaps the inner bin’s rim to reduce air exposure, creating an added layer of coverage that helps keep odors discreetly contained.
Q: Can the Recycling Bins be used for more than one material type?
A: Yes. The Recycling Bin’s two-bin configuration is designed to support clear separation of materials, allowing recyclables to be organized according to local guidelines or personal preference.
Food Storage & Airtight
Q: Why are my Food Storage lids tight to open?
A: Lids were crafted with Air Release Technology, specifically designed to keep freshness in and odors out. To open, simply pull up from one of the lid’s side grooves to let air flow out and reduce suction.
Q: What are the Airtight Storage Containers made of?
A: Airtight containers are made from 3.5mm thick borosilicate glass, which is BPA-free, PFAS/PFOA-free, microplastics-free, and toxin-free. The lids are made from BPA-free, food-grade ABS plastic with silicone gaskets.
Q: What are the Food Storage Containers made of?
A: The food storage containers are made from borosilicate glass with a nonstick ceramic coating on the interior and a nanoceramic coating on the exterior. The container lids are made of tempered glass with silicone gaskets.
Q: How does the Airtight seal work?
A: The airtight seal is activated by the lid’s switch. When the switch is open, air flows freely. Pressing down the switch locks the lid in place, creating an airtight seal that helps protect food from exposure to air, moisture, and contaminants.
Q: Can I use them in the dishwasher?
A: We recommend handwashing the Food Storage containers and Airtight jars to extend their lifespan. The lids are not dishwasher safe, as heat can cause warping or compromise the seal.
Q: How do I clean the Airtight lid and switch?
A: The switch is removable for easy cleaning. To remove the switch, simply push it open and slide it out. Once the parts are clean and dry, slide the switch back onto the hooks – the magnets will snap it securely into place.
Q: Why isn’t the Airtight switch sealing properly?
A: If the lid isn’t sealing properly, the switch may need to be reset. To remove it, push it open and slide it out. Clean the switch and lid surface to remove any dust or food particles, then slide the switch back onto the hooks.
Knives & Utensils
Q: How do I safely handle my knives?
A: These high-quality knives have incredibly sharp blades for precision and ease of use. Use caution when taking them in and out of the knife block and follow the curvature of the internal bumper.
Q: Do the knives need to be sharpened on a regular basis?
A: We recommend using a honing rod every 5 uses, and a knife sharpener 1-2 times per year. Remember that a sharp and precise knife is always safer than a dull one.
Q: Will the knives rust?
A: Premium stainless steel blades shouldn’t rust with proper care. However, if you do start to notice some rust, a stainless steel cleaner will take care of the job in no time.
Q: How do I clean my shears?
A: Kitchen shears are designed to come apart for a thorough clean! Just open them all the way and slide the top blade out of the center groove. Wash both pieces with warm, soapy water, dry them completely, then line up the grooves and slide the blades back together.
Q: Can I put my knives or utensils in the dishwasher?
A: Dishwashers are a notorious and abrasive way of cleaning, and they also tend to quickly dull knives and cause wooden utensils to splinter. Because of this, we recommend hand washing your prepware to keep it in pristine condition for years to come.
Q: How should I care for my utensils?
A: Wood utensils come pre-treated – no need to oil or wax. Hand wash them right after use with warm, soapy water, cleaning both sides to prevent uneven drying. Avoid soaking to prevent warping.
Q: What are the utensils made from?
A: Crafted from FSC-Certified Silver Birch wood, utensils are sustainably sourced, naturally durable, and resistant to stains and wear. A food-safe varnish gives them a smooth, non-stick finish for easy cleaning.
Q: What is the difference between Caraway’s utensils and mini utensils besides size?
A: Mini Utensils are thoughtfully designed for precision tasks and tight spaces. Ideal for use with smaller pans, prep bowls, or compact kitchens, they offer greater control for delicate tasks.
Cutting Boards & Butcher Blocks
Q: How do I clean my cutting boards and butcher blocks?
A: For cleaning, hand wash with warm, soapy water after each use, making sure to wash both sides and all edges! Never soak your board or place it in the dishwasher, as excess moisture and heat can cause warping or cracking. Always dry your boards upright.
Q: Does the wood require any special maintenance?
A: Yes! Regular oiling is the best way to keep your wood boards from drying, warping, or cracking. Use the included oil or any food-grade mineral oil, applying a thin coat with a clean cloth. Let it soak in overnight, then wipe away any excess.
Q: How do I disinfect my cutting boards and butcher blocks?
A: For deep cleaning, sanitize with 25% white vinegar and 75% water. To deodorize or lift stains, scrub with kosher salt and half a lemon. Never use bleach or baking soda on your boards!
Q: What are the benefits of using a wood cutting board or butcher block over plastic?
A: Wood boards provide a number of benefits compared to plastic. Wood is naturally antimicrobial, easier on your knives, and with proper care can last for decades.
Q: What are the major differences between Caraway’s Butcher Block and Cutting Boards?
A: The Butcher Block is designed to be a countertop staple that balances function and presentation. It is thicker and heavier than standard Cutting Boards and constructed using durable edge grain wood. Cutting Boards are lighter, more maneuverable, and designed primarily for everyday kitchen tasks.
Q: What kind of wood is used on the Butcher Block, and where is it sourced?
A: The wood for Butcher Blocks is sustainably grown and harvested in the United States. Two premium options are offered: Sugar Maple and Black Walnut.
Q: What kind of wood is used on the Cutting Boards, and where is it sourced?
A: Cutting Boards are crafted from FSC-certified birch wood, ensuring the wood comes from responsibly managed forests.
Q: Can I use my wooden boards for everything – meat, vegetables, bread, and cheese?
A: Yes! The cutting boards and butcher blocks are designed to handle all types of food prep. If you’re preparing raw meat, just be sure to thoroughly wash the board afterward and keep up with regular oiling.
Tools & Accessories
Q: Does the Grill Press get hot?
A: The Grill Press is designed with a hollow handle that helps it stay cooler for longer during shorter cooking sessions. However, the Grill Press is not heat-proof! We always recommend using an oven mitt or pot holder for safe handling, no matter the cooking method!
Q: Can I sharpen the blade on the Pizza Cutter and Vegetable Peeler?
A: The blades come factory-sharpened and will retain their edge for extended periods of time. We do not recommend sharpening at home, as this may damage the blades or risk injury.
Q: How do I use the Garlic Press?
A: The Garlic Press separates into 2 halves: the “hopper” and the “press head”. Ingredients are loaded into the hopper side. To detach, rotate the handles so they’re approximately 90 degrees apart and lift the press head up vertically.
Q: Is the entire Bar Set dishwasher-safe?
A: All components of the bar set are made from durable 304 stainless steel and are dishwasher-safe, with the exception of the wine key. The wooden base is crafted from FSC-certified Birchwood and should be hand-washed only.
Q: Does the Bar Set Shaker Lid stick or leak like most metal shakers?
A: No! The Shaker was designed to fix those common frustrations. The oval-shaped cap improves grip, so it’s easier to twist open or remove, even when cold or wet. A snug seal keeps the lid secure while shaking.
Q: Is the Wine Key corkscrew tip sharp enough to pierce synthetic corks?
A: Yes. The corkscrew is engineered with a sharpened tip and balanced coil spacing, so it smoothly enters both natural and synthetic corks without excessive force.
Q: Can I use the Bar Set Muddler in any glass?
A: The Muddler is made from solid cast stainless steel and has a substantial weight. For best results, use it with sturdy glassware only or in a shaker. Avoid delicate or thin glasses to prevent damage.
Q: Why isn’t my Tea Kettle whistling?
A: Make sure the lid is tightly placed on the kettle to ensure proper whistling! If you’re still having issues, please reach out to our customer experience team.
Q: Will the Glass Lids work on all your cookware products?
A: Yes, Glass Lids are designed to fit all Caraway pots and pans. However, because Enameled Cast Iron is hand-molded, some pieces may have slight variations that prevent a perfect seal.
Q: Are the Mixing Bowl lids airtight or leakproof?
A: The lids are not fully airtight or leakproof, but they help reduce air exposure and are ideal for short-term storage, dough proofing, or transport.
